What If?
Phillip Lim’s Fall 2008 ready-to-wear collections is inspired by the imaginary question, "What if?”

Photos by Henry Han

The mood is eccentric, brooding, mysterious and elegant. Color offerings and combinations such as spearmint, postal blue, emerald, marigold, carbongray, copper, rosewater and the quintessential black are an alternate to the ubiquitous fall selection. Textures and fabrics unite to inconspicuously manipulate masculine and feminine. Crisp poplins, washed velvets, rich cashmeres, two-tone lace, quilted matelasse and laundered wools are mixed with standard issue denims, distressed leathers and metal-laced cotton canvas. Two main shapes appear throughout the collection. Flounce sleeve maxi-dresses, suede duster coats and embroidered kimono dresses are contradicted with high-waist belted pencil skirts, cropped aviator blazers and cuffed carrot pants.
